03 — Get Your First Useful Result

Conversation guide: describe a goal, answer useful questions, supply facts, review a result, choose corrections and check.

Use the open chat from lesson 02, or open your chosen assistant and start a new chat. We will turn a few facts into a friendly invitation. It is fictional practice; nothing will be sent.

Copy, paste and send

Copy the complete block below, click the assistant's message box, paste it, then click its send button. On a computer, copy/paste is usually Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V, or Command+C/Command+V on a Mac. On a phone, select text and use Copy/Paste. You can also type the message yourself. Do not copy the lesson headings.

Write a short, friendly invitation for neighbors to a fictional park cleanup. The facts are: Saturday, 10 a.m., meeting at the park entrance. Ask people to bring gloves. Do not add a park name, end time or promises I did not provide. Give me the invitation only; do not send it.

The block is a starting example, not the only way to talk to AI. You can begin in your own words: “I need to invite neighbors to a cleanup, but I am not sure what to say. Help me work it out.” If it asks a question, answer it; if you are unsure, say so. Ask it to explain or offer options you can choose between.

Read it before using it

Does it include Saturday, 10 a.m., the park entrance and gloves? Did it invent an end time or a park name? Do not assume the assistant followed every instruction.

Ask it to check — same chat

Check that invitation against only the facts I gave you. Point out missing facts or details you added without support. If there is no important issue, say so. Do not rewrite it yet.

Check the critique yourself against the four facts. If nothing important needs changing, keep the draft. You can optionally change its tone to practice a follow-up. Otherwise choose what needs changing. For example, if it added an end time, type: “Remove the end time; I did not provide one.” If the facts are right but it sounds formal, type: “Keep the facts. Make it warmer and keep it to two sentences.” Send your chosen change in the same message box.

Read the revised invitation again. If a fact changed, compare it with the original facts. If it works, copy it into your notes, or leave it in this chat for now. You have asked, checked and decided what to keep or improve.

Your first milestone: you made an invitation, compared it with the supplied facts and chose whether to revise it. That is enough to try a small real task. You do not need a plugin, file upload or Project to continue.

Try your own task: give the facts of a message you need to draft, omitting private details. Keep it unsent until you check it. Next: lesson 04 shows how to make that first request clearer.
